Differential housing

A differential is the main component of vehicles which supplies power to outer drive wheel that contributes more to move faster while making a turn. There are several components included in a standard differential which include housing, gears, pin, and so on.

All differentials require oil for enhancing the functions of gears and bearings for ensuring smooth functioning. They also need regular inspection in order to control leaks, damages, and other issues considerably. An outside wheel must travel faster than the inside wheel during a turn. A differential plays an important role in directing power to a series of gears thereby showing ways for driving a vehicle with ease.

Types of differential:

There are various types of differentials available for vehicles in the markets which aim at fulfilling the expectations of vehicle users. Some of them include:

1.Open differential

An open differential is the basic and simplest type of differential which supplies the same amount of torque to both wheels of a vehicle effectively to accomplish the turn without any difficulties. The primary advantage of this differential is that it gives ways for rotating outer wheels to rotate faster by splitting torque in two ways. However, it may affect the power of opposite tire when one tire loses its fraction.

2.Locking differential

A locking differential directs a wheel to get the greater amount of traction when compared to an open differential. It is a suitable one for the sand, snow, and mud surfaces enabling a vehicle to function better with high efficiency. Another thing is that it even utilizes air, cable or electricity that contributes more to transfer the torque power to wheels efficiently.

3.Limited-slip differential

A limited-slip differential is a combination of both open and locked differential allowing a vehicle to lock automatically to avoid slipping during the driving process. In addition, it gives ways for controlling the excess power significantly that helps to limit the amount of rotational difference. The differential provides ways for putting more power to the ground that ultimately increases performance levels.

4.Torque- vectoring differential

The torque-vectoring differential is the most advanced and complicated type that shows ways for fine tuning the torque to each drive wheel. Furthermore, it provides methods for ensuring a better performance while driving a vehicle. It is usually found one rear wheel drive and other vehicles that will slow down or increase the rotation around a corner.

5.Active differential

An active differential provides ways for getting the resistance needed for a wheel by transferring the torque at the right time. This improves the performance levels of a vehicle with electronics applications. The differential works better on imperfect road surfaces by addressing essential needs.
